Where we’ve been…

Our story dates back to 1988, when Robby Noll, a recent business administration grad from Mary Washington College with a longtime passion for construction went to work for commercial property developer WJ Vakos and Company in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After gaining some experience Noll moved to Charlottesville and joined Management Services Corp. Soon after, he met his future partner Ian Wren—a University of Virginia grad who satisfied some post-college wanderlust by road-tripping with his wife across the U.S. before returning to work for Real Property Inc. in 1991.

Noll and Wren eventually joined forces and purchased Real Property in 1995. When the duo bought the company it had one employee and a $250,000 budget. They eventually turned it into the largest fee property management company in Central Virginia and sold it in 2008, when it had 38 employees and $3,850,000 in revenues. In 1997, Noll and Wren purchased Property Management of Virginia, which they also turned into a regional entity. Eventually they sold PMV, and made the decision to exclusively manage their own properties

Throughout the 2000s, the partners acquired land and property as the foundation to launch the Building Management Company.

What we do now…

With a successful portfolio of expertise in investment property development, management, construction, leasing, and financing, Noll and Wren officially formed the Building Management Company in 2008. The company’s core was completed in January 2011 with the addition of Reid Murphy, who brought the group a background in subdivision development and land planning and currently focuses on feasibility analysis and investment structuring. With this solid team in place, BMC is a versatile operation that brings in a range of partners to execute a variety of property projects throughout Virginia.

To date, BMC has developed and redeveloped a variety of multifamily properties from student housing to traditional apartments, as well as use specific commercial projects, ranging from traditional office buildings to veterinarian hospitals. With a dynamic team in place, the small company’s experience, education, and licensure enable it to take a project from conception to completion almost entirely with in-house talent.

How We Can Help You…

When we think about the scope of our business at BMC, the objective is to be versatile and open to any situation as it relates to real estate development, construction and management. Many of our projects are complex and often vary based on the current market. As more partners come into the equation, a variety of skills are required to organize the details and get the job done. Our team members have a wide range of abilities that complement each other and allow us to offer services in all aspects of investment property operations. We have plenty of experience navigating the fine print of entitlements and financing, but we also pride ourselves on giving our partners the hardscrabble, roll-up-the-sleeves work ethic that’s required for successful development and management. We stay connected to our properties in every way possible.
